Math Swap Tutoring LLC was formed in August 2020 by Shawn McClendon. At that time, the COVID-19 was in full effect across the country, and school-aged children were being forced into a new, virtual school format. Math Swap arose out of Shawn having a desire to use his heavy math background (Electronics Engineering) to provide kids with one-to-one assistance that they needed but were no longer receiving from school.
What does “Math Swap” mean?
You may wonder, “What in the world does ‘Math Swap’ actually mean?”
Here it is. When Shawn founded Math Swap, he did so, not only out of a desire to help others, but also, out of a desire to do the math himself.
The truth is that many professionals in fields with heavy math backgrounds – engineering, programmers, scientists, etc. – use very little math when working in their professional fields. While several math classes are required to get those types of degrees, much of the math in the actual profession is handled by computers and machines. Those who work in the areas of Research and Development (R&D) are usually the ones who still do a lot of math, but the other Engineers, Programmers and Scientists? Little to no math is done at all.
This ends up leaving many in math-based professions desiring to do math again, similar to how a former athlete wants to sometimes get back on the ball court…”to see if they still got it.“
Math Swap provides an opportunity for students needing math help to get the help they need, but it also provides an opportunity for people from math backgrounds to do math again. That’s where the “swap” happens.
Where is Math Swap located?
Math Swap is based in Macon, GA, the heart of Georgia.
