Times tables are very important!

If your child knows the times tables 1-12 well, it will save lots of time when doing school assignments and tests, and it will prevent them from making simple mistakes. It will even help them with regular life stuff like grocery shopping, making other purchases, and the many other tasks that we have to take care of in life that require us to count how much of what we need of stuff.

On the contrast, if your child does not know their times tables well, it will hurt them academically. As you get older and start to use larger numbers, counting in one’s head and counting with fingers (after all, you only have ten) becomes very inefficient. It takes way too much time and can leave one prone to making multiple mistakes.

Towards that end, I’ve created this page of tips and resources to help your child memorize the times tables.

Times Table

First of all, here is the times table. Download by clicking the pic or by clicking here.

Your child can use this one of two ways:

  • Use with homework. When doing math problems that require multiplication, have your child to have a printed copy of this times table close by so that they can trace the answers while working.
  • Write ’em out! Literally have them write out each problem (1×1 thru 10×10) using the table. It’s a bit of work, but it will help. Plus, a little work never hurt anybody 😉

Flashcards

I like to use these flash cards at Math-Drills.com to help my students practice virtually. For best results, I recommend practicing flash cards consistently and often.
